Standard 9 Teachers are able to evaluate themselves. The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on pupils, parents, professionals in the learning community and others and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.
Rationale 9: I have included my EDT 672 Journal to demonstrate my ability to reflect and evaluate myself as a teacher. This journal reflects my thought process, analysis, and evaluation of my teaching practices, specifically with online learning and technology use. Online learning is a growing part of education today and is a major part of my classroom. Students are constantly participating in online learning activities to be more actively engaged in the material. Moving traditional lessons to an online or technology based format has proven to be a challenge, and my journal entries demonstrate the thought and care I put into making traditional curriculum online and technology based.
As I have used more online learning in my classroom, I am able to reflect upon the affect it has on student motivation and learning. However, things need to keep changing in order to best meet students’ needs and teach the most important concepts in the most engaging ways. Overall, students have become more engaged with online lessons and learning, given proper guidance and instruction. As I continue to reflect and make changes based up on my reflection, results will continue to be positive.
Reflection is very valuable to my development as a teacher. By reflecting upon what works, what doesn’t, what was best for students, what didn’t work for students, etc., I can adjust strategies, methods and activities to best fit my students’ needs and to provide the most effective instruction.

9.K.3 The teacher is aware of major areas of research on teaching and other resources for professional learning (e.g. professional literature, colleagues, professional associations, professional development activities).
My journal demonstrates my interest in furthering online and blended learning in my classroom. Online and blended learning is quickly growing as successful teaching practices, offering students endless resources and information. As a reflective practitioner, I can work to make the practice of online teaching and learning more valuable to my students.
9.S.1 The teacher articulates and defends a philosophy of education to guide his/her practice and contributes to the stated philosophy of the school building/district.
My journal demonstrates my philosophy towards online teaching and learning. The practice of online teaching and learning offers students learning opportunities to fit different learning styles and offers different media to learn from. This backs up the philosophy that nurtures all types of learners and encourages students to be successful.
9.D.5 The teacher recognizes his/her professional responsibility for engaging in and supporting appropriate professional practices for self and colleagues.
My journals demonstrate the emphasis I put on designing units and lessons to be more online and technology. It is important to me to move lessons and units away from more traditional approaches that provide less choice and differentiation for student needs. It is my responsibility as the educator to make sure I am effectively using online teaching and learning to provide students with the best learing opportunities.
