Standard 6 Teachers communicate well. The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
Evidence 6: Mrs. Metzler's Website Rationale 6: My website was designed as a communication tool for students and parents to enhance the learning going on my classroom. It serves as a resource for parents to have access to what students are working on and gain a better understanding of the material. Parents and students can check for due dates, important instructions, rubrics, materials handed out in class, study guides, notes and any other resource they need for classwork. Online discussion posts also give parents a view into classroom topics, and students can learn from their peers. My hope is that absent students can access the same information given face-to-face in class. My website also contains Power Points, slide shows, and videos to deliever instruction and support an interactive classroom. Parent and student feedback has been very positive, and I will continue to build on my existing page. It is an ongoing and constantly changing process and page.
It has been very valuable to my development as a teacher because I believe it has really opened the window to parent communication. It has allowed for a whole new way to present information and communicate with students both in class and outside of school. It is a tool that has opened up new ways to share instructional media and collaboration.
