Standard 3 Teachers understand that children learn differently. The teacher understands how pupils differ in their approaches to learning and the barriers that impede learning and can adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with disabilities and exceptionalities.
Rationale 3: This lesson was developed as an alternative way for students to learn about the Executive Branch. I developed it last year wanting to move away from the text book and give students more choices. I wanted a different way to get information to students other than more traditional ways. With this inquiry lesson, they can choose their topic as well as the questions they want to answer. Because they have so many choices, the needs of all learners are more easily met. Students are then working independently at their own levels to research information they are interested in. Overall, students responded well to the choices offered and appreciated the way the project was structured.
This has been a valuable experience shaping my development as a teacher. It was my first experience with Inquiry lessons, and it really gave me insight as to how the process works and how it benefits students by giving choices and more freedom.
